How to Deal with Change
Since the pandemic happened, you may have experienced a lot of changes in different aspects of your life, from work to social life. While you may have got used to some of these changes, there may still be others that you’re struggling with.
Here are some useful tips that may help you deal with those changes:
Ask yourself, ‘what’s the worst thing that can happen?’
Many times, when we’re facing changes, we immediately feel scared because of the unknown. A good way to deal with this is to think things through carefully. Imagine different possible outcomes – from the best ones to the worst and create a plan. If it helps you out, write these things down.
Let go of the things you can’t control
A change, no matter how small it is, can feel intimidating because it’s basically pushing us beyond our comfort zone. But changes can also be opportunities for growth and learning.
When you’re facing a change in your life and you’re feeling overwhelmed with it, get into reflective thinking and walk yourself through different scenarios. There’s only so much you can do about it; so focus on what you can do and let go of the rest.
Fake it ‘til you make it
If the change you’re facing is beyond your control, try to re-frame your way of thinking. Instead of considering it as a setback, think of it as a new growth opportunity, even if you have to fake it ‘til you make it.
No matter how small it may seem, any positive or wins from a change is worth celebrating. Try to see the positive in that change and make the most of it.
Learn to manage your stress
This may seem challenging especially if you’re already feeling overwhelmed, but setting aside time (even just 5 minutes of your day) to de-stress helps. Learning different ways to de-stress can make you more capable in handling changes.
Reaching out for emotional support can help ease the stress and anxiety from facing any change in your life. Find time to talk or even message your trusted family or friends.
If neither is available, know that you can always seek support from professionals.
Change may feel so scary but taking just one action can make a difference! It also helps to know that you’re not alone in this.
